“Woke Church” A Conversation – September 14

“Woke Church” A Conversation – September 14

What: “Woke Church” conversation
When: Saturday, September 14 @ 10am
Where: 415 Sams Point Road
Who: As always, ALL are invited
As a follow up to our summer series on the “Beloved Community,” I have invited Vernita Brown to facilitate a conversation of Eric Mason’s book, “Woke Church: An Urgent Call for Christians in America to Confront Racism and Injustice.” Vernita has led a number of these conversations in Charleston and virtually over the last ten months.
I’ve known Vernita and her husband Juston since they were students at Clemson University, and I was privileged to officiate their wedding in Tampa six years ago. The two of them have devoted their adult lives to growing multi-ethnic (non-racial) faith communities and building bridges of understanding wherever they have lived. They are the proud parents a little girl named Justice.
I have ordered some copies of the book today. If you’d like one, let me know and I’ll get it to you. While the book is a short read, it will challenge you to look at your faith and the Church in a different way. It is my hope that our conversation on September 14th may lead to some deeper conversations and faithful actions as WE seeks to the Beloved Community for one another and Greater Beaufort. CLG
