Sermon Snap Shot September 2, 2018

Today’s life lesson drawn from Robert Fulghum’s “All I Really Need to Know I Learned in Kindergarten” begins with these words: “When (not if…but when) we go out into the world…”
These words remind me of the young seminarian who falls in love with the entire seminary experience. His professors are great. His classmates are great. Everyone is so nice and focused on learning and growing with God. He is so ‘full of seminary’ that he mentions to his one of his professors one day on the way out of class, “This is the best place ever. I just can’t imagine ever leaving!”
The professor stops him. “What did you just say?”
“This is the best place ever. Everyone is just so nice here. I can’t imagine ever leaving!”
The professor’s face turned stern as he said, “Listen closely son. This is not where the action is. The action is out there, in the real world. Seminary is about preparing you to go back into the real world where there is great pain and suffering and need. That’s where God’s calling you to be!”
Waters Edge, our time together each week is just like this: preparing us to go into back into the real world where there is great pain, suffering and need. That’s where God is calling us to be as well.
From yesterday’s message entitled “Lessons for Life: When You Go Into the World…Watch for Traffic, Hold Hands and Stick Together”
