For some of us, our story of faith can take the form of a tidal wave with an experience of God that washes over our old life and old existence in an abrupt, startling way. This was the Paul’s story as his life was forever changed on the road to Damascus. For others of us, our story of faith can take the form of a slow, methodical stream of water with a repeated, almost perpetual experience of God that is slowing shaping and molding us into God’s image ever more clearly each day. This was Peter’s story, as he experienced multiple conversions even, saying “Yes” to Jesus on one level..and then a deeper level…and so on.
But the most important thing to remember – whether we’re talking about a Paul-like, tidal wave conversion, a Peter-like, slow stream conversion (or something in between) – is both paths have one crucial thing in common: God does the saving. Not Lane. Not Mel. Not the TV evangelist. Not the pastor who baptized you or confirmed you. God is the one who saves.
