Sermon Snap Shot September 16, 2018

“Sticks and stones can break my bones…but words can never hurt me.”

Talk about Fake News! Anyone who has lived more than just a few years and has sought to develop relationships with their family, their friends, their neighbors – and I’m not even talking about their adversaries – knows just how big of a lie this rhyme is!

Words can be most hurtful.
Words can be most helpful.
Words – what we say and how we say it – have power.

As people of faith, this wisdom should both scare us but also give us hope. It’s scary because as someone who stands in front of you once a week, I certainly do so with great fear and trembling. But it also gives us hope knowing that even the deepest of wounds might be healed, even the worst of injustices might be made right, even the grandest of dreams might be realized…with the help of words.

From Sunday September 16 message based on Jeremiah 1:1-10 entitled, “Watch Your Words: An Introduction”
Rev. Lane Glaze
Pastor, Waters Edge UMC
