Sermon Snap Shot October 16, 2016

Being saved by God…from Death…to Freedom…for Good.
The churches of Galatia had a hard time grasping these different aspects of the Gospel. They had heard Paul’s message, they had believed, and yet they had struggled with this idea that they had been liberated from all these hundreds of detailed laws. Paul reiterated to them that through Jesus Christ they had been set free from worrying about all of these details. For him, the fullness of the Law was summed up in this one, single command, “You shall love you neighbor as yourself.” He taught that if we do this one thing, we have in essence fulfilled the spirit of all the laws that we find in the Old Testament.
But, Paul goes on to say, this liberation from the details of the Law was not intended to lead to self-indulgence. We haven’t been freed just so we can go out and have a party! No, this freedom enables us to love anyone and everyone and to do good everywhere we go without worrying “Does God loves me?” or “Is God pleased with me?”
