Sermon Snap Shot January 7, 2018

As I re-read this closing verse this past week, it dawned on me that this is exactly what I desired for my two daughters when they were first born. And I bet all of you moms and dads would say the same thing. “I want my child to be strong in who she is. I want my child to be wise in how he makes decisions. I want my children to know God’s love and feel God’s presence and power each and every day – no matter where they are and what they are facing.” Seeing these three attributes in your children – Strong, Wise and Full of Grace – are like Parenting Goals 101.

And truth be told, these are Pastor and Church Goals 101 as well. In a few weeks, Waters Edge will be celebrating its 11th anniversary or birthday since the church first launched to the general public on January 21, 2007. And 11 years later, we are a church that is stronger – the dozen or so families that helped launch this church have multiplied…and multiplied…and multiplied…to the point where we are 10 times the size! And, given all the folks who call WE home, I would like to think that we are also wiser and even more full of grace.

But as we all know, growth in numbers means nothing if it is not accompanied by growth in knowledge, growth in forgiveness, growth in good works, growth in joy – in summary, growth in love. Love of God. Love of self. Love of one another. Love of neighbor. Love of the stranger. Love of the enemy. Love for all God’s creation.

May 2018 be a year of growth in all of these ways for you personally and for us as a community of faith as we seek to impact the Greater Beaufort community in beautiful, transformative ways.

From yesterday’s message based on Luke 2:22-40, “Strong, Wise and Full of Grace”
Rev. Lane Glaze
Pastor, Waters Edge UMC
