Becoming 13 is a milestone in many ways. At 13 a person becomes a teen-ager…begins to look ahead to high school and college…thinks about being an adult. We recognize this new stage of growth. Being 13 puts a person into a “liminal” state, neither child nor fully grown.
We grow both as individuals and as a congregation. It is reassuring to recognize that God is with us on the way from past to future. In fact, the journey is often more important than the goal. Fortunately, God has faith in us as we are called to live faithfully towards God. In all things we need to have hope for a better future as God hopes we will grow into better people. And all this is possible because we love God and God loves us.
So, “Happy 13th Birthday” to Waters Edge, and to 13 year olds everywhere!
From Sunday January 26 message by Rev. Tom Potenza based on I Corinthians 13 entitled, “Next…!”
