Sermon Snap Shot January 22, 2017

When it comes to understanding and appreciating the God we worship and serve here at Waters Edge…the first foundational building block is captured by this expression:

God is good…all the time. And all the time…God is good.

Now I’ll be honest. When I first arrived here nearly four years ago, I thought of this expression as being a little cliche, most likely one of the habits that someone had started that had stuck. But within a few weeks of arriving, I forgot to greet the congregation with those words! It wasn’t intentional – it just slipped my mind. But it was pretty evident…in the hours and days that followed…that I ought not do that again if I wanted to enjoy a long, fruitful pastorate here!

Now I’m joking…to some degree. But it was obvious early on that this congregation’s belief in the goodness of God – at all times and in all circumstances – was for real. It wasn’t cliche at all! And it certainly wasn’t a meaningless ritual that had become one of those non life-giving sacred cows that we often see in churches.
