Sermon Snap Shot February 16, 2020

As we close today’s message and this series I want to share this most famous quote from Fred Rogers. It’s a quote that we have heard repeated dozens of times over the last few decades…

After Oklahoma City in 1995
After Columbine in 1999
After 9-11 in 2001
After Hurricane Katrina in 2005
After Virginia Tech in 2007
After Super Storm Sandy in 2012
After Paris in 2015
After Paradise, CA in 2018

“When I was a boy and I would see scary things in the news, my mother would say to me, ‘Look for the helpers. You will always find people who are helping.’ To this day, especially in times of ‘disaster’, I remember my mother’s words and I am always comforted by realizing that there are still so many helpers – so many caring people in this world.”

When it is all said and done – when all of humanity is before the throne of God – will it be said of you…of me…of us: “He…she…they were helpers.”

I pray that for myself, and I pray that for this community of faith called Waters Edge.

From Sunday February 16 message based on Matthew 25:35-40 entitled, “Neighbors HELP One Another”

Rev. Lane Glaze
Pastor, Waters Edge UMC
