Sermon Snap Shot December 4, 2016

The first movement of Mary’s song praises God for what God has done for this poor peasant girl “of humble estate.” And these autobiographical words for Mary anticipate the second movement of the song. Just what God has done for the humble, lowly Mary, God promises to do for the poor, the powerless and the oppressed – the forgotten of this world. Yes, there will be an eventual triumph of God’s purposes for all people, everywhere. Mary’s song is truly a song of hope for the hopeless…for those grasping and scraping every day to survive.

Has the world’s economic engine chewed you up and spit you out? Through the Christmas story God reaches out to us and says, “Hold on! There’s hope!”
Has some wretched disease beaten you or your loved one down? “Hold on! There’s hope!”
Has a fire, hurricane or storm destroyed your life’s work? “Hold on! There’s hope!”
Have you given up on yourself and your chances of having a better life? “Hold on! There’s hope!”
Are you at your wit’s end…your breaking point…and just can’t imagine how life can continue? Today’s message is for you. Indeed, the entire story of Christmas is for you. “Hold on! There’s hope!”

From yesterday’s message based on Luke 1:39-56, “Love Came Down…to Give Hope”
