Sermon Snap Shot April 14, 2019

The week between Palm Sunday and Easter is called “Holy Week.” It begins with Jesus’ triumphant entry into Jerusalem and ends with the miracle of the Resurrection.
As we start the week we can shout “Hosanna!” and wave palm branches, but both are more than signs of celebration. The palms, in Jesus’ day, were symbols of Jewish nationalism, and the word “Hosanna” means more than “Hooray!” It means “Save us!” As the Roman Empire held power over Israel, Jesus was seen as a savior in both a political and a religious sense.
Like today’s world, there was plenty to fear for the people of the city. Jesus represents hope in the face of fear. Celebrating His coming takes courage and expectation. Hosanna!
