16 Jan Second Worship Service and 10th Anniversary Celebration
WE Friends –
This Sunday, January 22nd, will be an historic day as we celebrate two significant events.
First, January 21st marks the 10th anniversary of WE’s initial launch to the Beaufort community…our 10th birthday as a church, you might say. In many ways, it’s hard to believe it has been a decade since those first services at the old theater near Beaufort High School. Ten years means that we’ve been around for a while now. We’re no longer the “new kid on the block,” and the questions surrounding our long-range viability have long since dissipated. WE has reached and will continue to reach hundreds of folks with the Good News that no matter what our past might be or what kinds of questions we might have, we all matter to a God that is very, very good!
Second, this Sunday is significant as it marks our move to a new, expanded Sunday worship schedule. We will be adding a new, “Early Worship” service at 9am while our “Late Worship” will continue at 10:30am. No matter which service you may attend, you will receive the same relevant message, hear the same uplifting music and experience the same loving family. In between the two services, we have planned a very intentional 30 minute Coffee Fellowship to allow those who are coming and going to visit. I see this Coffee Fellowship as crucial to maintaining unity and a sense of being one family. No matter which service you attend, I hope that you’ll make the Coffee Fellowship time a part of your Sunday morning as well.
Over the last few months we have had a team of folks making preparations for this new service. Much of this planning has centered around several strategies for communicating this new opportunity to others who are not already connected to a community of faith. You may have noticed some ads on Facebook and postings to our website. Yesterday during worship folks were invited to pick up a few pre-printed post cards to share with neighbors, colleagues or friends (we have more if you would like to stop by the church this week). For those of you who live on Lady’s, Cat, Cane or Gibbs Island, be on the lookout for a flyer in your mailbox. We are sending approximately 5,000 pieces.
Many have asked about parking, especially given our desire to fellowship between the services. Those of us on staff (including members of the Praise Band and AV Team) plan to park behind the building to free up the spots in front. For those of you who are younger and more physically able, I would ask that you park further away from the building. As things evolve over the first few weeks, we will be monitoring the parking very closely to see what other changes may need to be made.
As we prepare to greet new people, let us all recall the times when we were the visitor or stranger who was seeking to make new friends. Let us practice hospitality well, but let us also give folks the room to experience WE at their own pace and in their own time.
Please join me in prayer in the coming days. May God continue to bless WE in the coming years. May God send us new folks whose gifts and talents will enrich our fellowship. And may God give us the grace to fulfill Hebrews 13:2:
for some who have done this have entertained angels
without even knowing it. (NLT)
