Sermon Snap Shot March 25, 2018

Wow! What a crazy few days this has been…what a crazy few years! And to think that all of our hard work and all of our travels throughout Judea and the surrounding region have finally paid off.
Our chosen one – our candidate to reestablish the throne of David – is on the precipice of doing just that. Did you see all those people today? Did you notice all those signs? “I’m with Him” and “MIGA: Make Israel Great Again.” Wow, what a slogan!
Some have called this the beginning of the end for the Jesus era, but I say it is just of the end of the beginning. In Jesus of Nazareth we have found the ideal candidate. Strong yet compassionate. Conservative on some issues but liberal on others. And a charisma that is amazing – I mean when he looks into your eyes, your heart just melts!
Looking back I’m so glad I said “yes” to join his fledgling movement a few years ago. What a rollercoaster ride it has been! I mean, Jesus almost derailed the campaign on numerous occasions. Thank goodness I and a handful of others were there to steer him straight! Rather than focusing on our core constituency, (you know, the crowd that will surely get us elected!), Jesus kept paying way too much attention to people on the fringe: lepers, poor people, Samaritans, women even and children. I mean having a few children are great, but Jesus would become overly consumed with the children wherever we went. Some have said that he really has a heart that is too big for politics.
And then there were those moments over the last year when Jesus would enter this dark, gloomy head space. He’d start talking about how he kept having dreams of being persecuted and killed one day. We all chalked it up to stress and tried to keep him focused on the prize: being crowned King of the Jews!
All that is now water under the bridge. Jesus of Nazareth, the one who announced his candidacy a little less than three years ago, has overcome the establishment’s scorn…has overcome his humble beginnings…and has rode a populist wave to the point of inevitable victory!
I will never forget today. The crowds crying out…
Hosanna!
Blessed is He who comes in the name of the Lord!
Blessed is the coming kingdom of our father David!
Hosanna in the highest!
This is a day that will sustain me forever. The beginning of the end – no way! Today simply marks the end of the beginning for Jesus of Nazareth. Future King of the Jews!
From Palm Sunday, March 25, message based on Mark 11:1-11 entitled, “The Beginning of the End…or the End of the Beginning?
