Sermon Snap Shot July 23, 2017

The whole of the Book of Acts is about this difficult-to-pin-down, rushing wind of the Holy Spirit that is at work all around us, all the time, to bring about God’s purposes on this earth. In Barnabas-like fashion we can choose to participate by saying “OK God…I’m all in!” Or, we can proceed like Ananias and Sapphira. We can try to be coy, we can try to hedge our bets, we can offer God our leftovers or, even worse, we can try to manipulate how and where the Spirit blows.
This story is a stark reminder that the Spirit is the source of life. If we try to squelch the work of the Spirit in our lives as individuals, we will, over time, die spiritually. The same goes for the Church. If a church tries to squelch the work of the Spirit, it will die spiritually as well. Now, the organization or institution might continue to exist, but it will cease to be a church. In fact there are many “churches” in our world today that are nothing more than social clubs, civic organizations or weekly family reunions.
From Sunday, July 23 message based on Acts 5:1-20 entitled, “I Love to Tell THE Story: Heads Up…the Spirit’s Moving!”
