Sermon Snap Shot February 18, 2018

More than any other time of the year, Lent is a season for looking inwardly, for asking ourselves hard yet spiritually crucial questions:

God, how have I fallen short?
Who do I need to forgive?
And, in light of today’s story, how have I domesticated Jesus and his message to suit my needs, my purposes?

When I look into the eyes of Jesus, I see a loving person, a shepherding Messiah who is the embodiment of love and who says to each us…

Don’t reduce me and don’t reduce being one of my followers to a list of do’s and don’ts. Relationship is at the heart of my message. Relationship with God, first and foremost. Then relationship with one another…and with those who, for whatever reason, feel unloved, excluded, even persecuted. Don’t lose sight of the big picture…

the Law is God’s gift to you
the Sabbath is God’s gift to you
I am God’s gift to you
And you are God’s gift to one another.

From Sunday, February 18 message “Sabbath Wars” based on Mark 2:23 – 3:6, the first in the five week series “Say What? Do What? Five of Jesus’ Most Controversial Lessons”
